Where else can you find an industry that has 0% unemployment? Pretty much nowhere else but Cybersecurity.

That’s right; zero unemployment. In fact, by 2019, there will be 2 million open cybersecurity positions worldwide. Data needs to be secured everywhere. From retail to corporations to military to space exploration.

What does a Cybersecurity professional do?

We’re using the term “cybersecurity professional” because everyone uses a different term. Whether you are an engineer, specialist, analyst or something else, when you are in cybersecurity, your job to two-fold: prevent attacks from coming in and find the vulnerabilities that are already there and fix them.

In today’s world, we need to assume there’s always been a breach and always be on the lookout for a vulnerability that’s been compromised. Thinking in a creative and innovative way about technology will be key.

What can I study if I want to be a Cybersecurity professional?

  • Software engineering or computer science
  • Systems Engineering
  • Information Security

You should also consider certificate programs like Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP).
